symposium Honderd jaar Vrede van Versailles
Exactly 100 years ago, on June 28 1919, the treaty of Versailles was signed. With the "Peace of Versailles" after four years of devastating trench war, the First World War ended. After the ceasefire of november 1918, it took more than six months before the allies could agree on the conditions. Defeated Germany was only allowed to sign at the cross.
On June the 29th, the WFA together with the Stichting Studiecentrum Eerste Wereldoorlog organized the symposium Honderd jaar Vrede van Versailles. Together, we reflected on this milestone in history and dived deeper into establishment, content and (in)direct consequences of the treaty.
Of course, Aris Gaaff was largely involved in the organization of the event and held a presentation on the topic of the contents of the treaty.
